About the Event
Justice Eva Guzman is a history maker— the First Latina elected to statewide office in Texas and the first Latina to serve on the Supreme Court of Texas. She has made it into our children's textbooks and onto more than one "Most Influential People" list. She's been dubbed a pathfinder, a trailblazer, "Outstanding Texas Leader," and more.
Justice Guzman holds a B.B.A. from the University of Houston, a J.D. from South Texas College of Law, and an LL.M. from Duke Law School, where her instructors included United States Supreme Court Justices Antonin Scalia and Samuel Alito. In 2013, Justice Guzman received a rare shout-out from the United States Supreme Court, calling her by name in one of its opinions.
As the wife of a veteran police officer, a Texan who grew up in Houston's East End, Eva's parents – patriotic to the core -- taught her the importance of faith and family.
